Two ladies completed the race: Sierra Kimble placed 27th with a time of 25:29 finishing ahead of all SWOC competitors except for two which is excellent for a freshman runner. Mikayla Hairston finished with a time of 41:37 while fighting through breathing difficulty. She ran her personal best over the 5K distance. Kimble had the 5th fastest debut race time since Coach Ken Meibers has had a girls team. Team captain Taryn Smith gave the race a valiant effort but could not finish the race due to a nagging injury.
The girls and boys country team had a good showing at the Edgewood Cougar XC Invitational. The boys team ran great, finishing 3rd place out of eight teams and only six points away from first place. Justin Abrams led the way with a 2nd place finish in 18:03. He was followed by Shawn Bell (12th place), Deandre Evans (14th place), Caleb Smiley (16th place), Marcus Blunt (24th place) and John Butler (25th place). Freshman, Mykell Beck ran a great first mile of the race but had to stop early due to an injury.
The next meet is the Norwood Invitational Saturday, Sept 2nd.
