Cross Country Season draws to a close with the SWOC meet. Here’s a special shout out to our Seniors…
Senior Co-Captain Shawn Bell has had a truly outstanding season. He is the exemplar of a dedicated distance runner: unwavering, coachable, committed, and possessing a tremendous work ethic. He’s has 3 sub-18 minute performances due to the fact that he has been running over 40 miles per week since May with the burning desire of making the SWOC All-Conference team (Top 14 finishers in the Boys and Girls Varsity races) and yesterday he achieved that goal in style by placing 8th!! In addition, he is one of the nicest athletes that we have worked with and is a great teammate. The coaching staff is so proud of his accomplishments.
Senior Co-Captain Caleb Smiley has had a great season. Although Caleb did not have the race he was hoping for yesterday he’s had a breakthrough year with 2 sub-19 minute performances. Caleb was consistently a high-performer and has also been a wonderful training partner as he and Shawn worked well together and made each other better. But even more notable than Caleb’s running acheivments are his sportsmanship at races which has been noticed by several parents of other runners throughout the season and Caleb’s leadership on our team. The coaching staff is so proud of his accomplishments.
We had solid performances from the rest of our athletes as well: Isaiah Hix, Louis Ba, and Jordan Nelson in the Boys Varsity race and Ella Norris in the Girls Varsity race.
Our two Jr. High runners, Aissata Ba and Xander Grimes both had excellent races and both achieved new personal records!!
Next Saturday, October 19th, we are taking a small group to compete at the Southwest Ohio District Championships which will be held at Voice of America park in West Chester. Ella Norris will be competing at 10:30am and Shawn Bell, Caleb Smiley, and Isaiah Hix will be competing at 11:30am.
